Employer Job Readiness Assessment Checklist

A practical review tool for role definition, representative work, scoring controls, evidence records, and responsible employer decisions.

How to use it

Use this checklist before relying on a work sample, simulation, competency assessment, or verified evidence record. Review it while designing the task, again before scoring, and once more before interpreting the result.

Verified competency is evidence, not a hiring verdict. Employers decide job readiness using the complete role context.

Read the complete framework
Before assessment

Start with the job, not the candidate

Define the role, level, study or operational context, delegated responsibilities, expected supervision, and critical consequences first. The same title can involve different work across sites, CROs, sponsors, studies, and systems.

Choose a task that lets the candidate produce observable evidence without testing responsibilities outside the actual role. Training can show exposure. Demonstrated work shows capability.

Complete checklist

Review every item before interpreting the result

A checked box means the assessment process addressed the item. It does not mean the candidate passed or that the employer must make a particular decision.

01

Define the role

  • The role, level, work context, and assessed competencies are identified.
  • The assessment tests only responsibilities that genuinely belong to the defined role.

02

Design representative work

  • The task resembles real work within the defined role.
  • The assessment context, source materials, allowed resources, time, assistance, and accommodations are known.
  • The candidate can explain and defend decisions, uncertainty, escalation, and role boundaries.

03

Establish review controls

  • The review criteria were established before evidence was reviewed.
  • Critical safety, compliance, consent, eligibility, integrity, and escalation errors are distinguished from minor mistakes where relevant.
  • A reviewer qualified for the strength and scope of the claim evaluates the preserved evidence.

04

Preserve an interpretable record

  • The record shows demonstrated strengths, development gaps, and areas not assessed.
  • The assessment date and task, source-material, and rubric versions are retained.

05

Limit the decision

  • Every claim is limited to the assessed role, competency, evidence, conditions, and date.
  • The employer combines the result with relevant experience, credentials, references, required checks, interview evidence, supervision needs, and role requirements.
  • The employer retains the final hiring or development decision.
After assessment

Record what the evidence supports

Document demonstrated strengths, development gaps, critical concerns, unassessed areas, and follow-up questions without extending the claim.

Demonstrated

Record the criteria supported by preserved evidence under the stated conditions.

Developing

Identify specific gaps, support needs, or evidence that remains incomplete.

Not assessed

Name areas the task did not examine. Do not present them as failures.

What this checklist does not establish

  • The checklist does not produce a universal pass or fail verdict.
  • Simulation work is not employment experience.
  • Course completion is not verified competency.
  • An assessment does not establish licensure, accreditation, background checks, employment verification, employer endorsement, or regulatory authorization.
  • No assessment guarantees or predicts future job performance.
  • No conclusion should extend to competencies that were not assessed.
